TheCommoners meet IRI, 2023
TheCommoners had the opportunity to meet with a team from the International Republican Institute (IRI) based in New York, USA.
This meeting served as an important platform for TheCommoners to voice their concerns regarding the housing situation in the Maldives.
As part of a comprehensive survey conducted by the IRI, TheCommoners took the opportunity to express their perspectives on various aspects of housing in the country.
During the meeting, the representatives from TheCommoners highlighted their concerns about the existing housing conditions and the effectiveness of government housing policies.
We emphasized the urgent need for improvements in the housing sector to address the growing challenges faced by the local population. We also discussed the rules and regulations that govern the housing sector, shedding light on their impact and potential areas for reform.
Moreover, We took the opportunity to share our insights on key changes we believe are necessary within the national housing policy. As a non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to the welfare of the community, we presented our rationale and reasoning behind the proposed changes.
Our aim was to ensure that the housing policies not only meet the immediate needs of the people but also align with the long-term development goals of the Maldives.
By engaging with the team from the International Republican Institute, we have taken a proactive approach to addressing the housing concerns prevalent in the Maldives. Collaborating with an international organization provides an opportunity to present a comprehensive view of the housing situation and to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on policy reforms.
The meeting with the IRI team signifies the our commitment to advocate for positive change and address the pressing challenges faced by individuals and families in need of adequate housing.
By sharing concerns, insights, and proposed policy changes, we aim to influence decision-makers and bring about meaningful improvements in the housing sector.

We stressed on the importance of ensuring that the policies are aligned with the needs of the population, provide fair and equal opportunities for housing, and address the socio-economic disparities that exist in the country.
As TheCommoners continue our efforts to advocate for change, it is essential that the government, policymakers, and stakeholders take heed of our concerns and work together to address the pressing housing challenges. By embracing dialogue and collaborative approaches, it is possible to pave the way for a brighter future, where adequate housing is accessible to all residents of the Maldives.
